Take good care of your gold and diamond Jewelry
Maanestens Gold and Diamond Jewelry is made from 18-carat yellow gold and 18-carat white gold, often combined with our Top Wesselton SI1 diamonds. If you treat your jewelry with care, it will remain beautiful and shiny for a long time.
How to care for your gold and diamond Jewelry
-
Start your day mindfully
Put on your jewelry last – after showering, applying cream, perfume, deodorant and hair products. Despite gold's resistance, chemicals from skin and hair care products can affect the surface of your jewelry over time, causing tarnishing or discolouration. That is why we at Maanesten recommend that you put on your jewellery last after your morning routine.
-
Remove jewelry when exercising
During exercise, there is an increased risk of scratches, minor damage and jewelry getting caught. In addition, sweat can affect the surface of gold over time and cause discolouration.
-
Going on holiday? Give your jewelry a break
Sunscreen and oils may contain chemicals that react with the precious materials in jewelry. Chlorine and salt water can discolour silver and gold, while gemstones such as freshwater pearls, opals and corals are directly damaged by chlorine and may lose their colour and lustre. Sand can also scratch and dull the surface.
-
Be gentle when cleaning
Remove your jewelry or wear gloves when cleaning. Natural materials such as silver and precious stones can react with the chemicals found in cleaning products and soap.
-
Clean your jewelry carefully
Jewelry that is worn frequently may need refreshing from time to time, and you can easily restore your jewelry to its former glory. Gold jewelry can be polished with a special polishing cloth for gold. For a more thorough cleaning, you can place your jewelry in a small bath of lukewarm water and a little washing-up liquid. Leave it for a while to dissolve any dirt. Then use a soft toothbrush to gently clean the jewelry – rinse thoroughly to remove any soap residue and dry with a soft cloth.
-
Store your jewelry separately
The surface of gold can be scratched when it comes into contact with other jewelry. Therefore, store your jewelry in separate boxes, bags or compartments in your jewelry box.
-
Have your diamond jewelry checked
Diamonds last forever, but wear and tear on settings can occur over time, so we recommend that you have your diamond jewelry checked regularly by a jewelry.
-
Give your jewelry a break at night
Remove your jewelry when you sleep. This reduces wear and tear and allows your skin to breathe.
